Binghamton wrestler Goeres named CAA Rookie of Week

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton sophomore 141-pound Anwar Goeres (Holley, N.Y.) was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association wrestling co-Rookie of the Week for December 4.

Goeres has opened his first season at Binghamton with a perfect 4-0 start. After pinning the nation's 14th-ranked wrestler from Iowa State in his first match on November 18, Goeres went undefeated at the Journeyman/Brute Northeast Duals, earning two pins and a major decision.

In the first CAA release, Binghamton is fifth in the team rankings, with five individuals ranked among the top-6 in their respective weight classes.

Sophomore 174-pound Josh Patterson (Wayne, N.Y.) is No. 1, senior 149-pound Kyle Fried (Rock Hill, N.Y.) is also No. 1, senior heavyweight Mike Patterson (Wayne, N.Y.) is No. 3, junior 157-pound Nate Patterson (Wayne, N.Y.) is No. 4 and sophomore 197-pound Corey Waite (Nichols, N.Y.) is ranked No. 5.

The Bearcats return to action on December 8 with an away dual match against fellow CAA member Boston University.
