Lions Place Seven At East Stroudsburg Open
EAST STROUDSBURG, PA (Nov. 22, 2003) – The Light Blue took part in the East Stroudsburg Open, placing seven in the top six. The team was led by Daniel Green (Sr., Tulsa, Okla.), who placed second. Green (125) went 5-0 in the tournament, losing in the finals to Matt Smith (Unattached-Penn State) in double overtime (7-6).
Also wrestling in the 125 bracket was transfer Jeff Sato (So., Pismo Beach, Calif.). Sato captured fourth place after having a tough overtime win in the third round. Anthony Constantino (Fr., Kirtland, Ohio) and Bart Seeman (Jr., Suffern, N.Y.) also placed fourth in their respective classes. Constantino (141) battled hard through the bracket with his biggest win coming against Rob Becker (George Mason), who is ranked as high as no. 10 in the nation. Seeman had a good showing at the tournament, going 4-1 for the day while capturing his fourth place spot.
Devin Mesanko (157, So. Toms River, N.J.) had a 7-6 tie-breaker win over Keith Kelckner to capture fifth place in the consolation rounds. Senior Erik Norgaard (Sr. Leonia, N.J.) took sixth place, making it through his first three bouts without a point being scored on him. First-year Josh Moyer (133, Fr., Kansas City, Mo.) also placed sixth, grabbing his first tournament placing in his collegiate career.
The Lions are back in action the first weekend of December when they will be traveling to participate in the Las Vegas Invitational from the 5th-6th.
