WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS; 2008 EVENT SCHEDULE RELEASED

Championships head to Blue Cross Arena in Rochester on March 8-9

 

LATHAM, NY – The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has announced tickets are on sale beginning December 21st for the 2008 high school wrestling state championships at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester on Saturday, March 8th and Sunday, March 9th. The Association has also released its competition schedule for this year’s tournament which has shifted to a Saturday-Sunday format instead of a Friday-Saturday format as in previous years. The tournament is sponsored in part by Worldwide Sport Supply, Jostens, CSEA, Holiday Inn and the Marines.

 

THE 2008 TOURNAMENT, now in its fifth year of a two-division format, will follow a similar schedule to last year’s event held at the Times Union Center in Albany. The upcoming tournament will be the second year that an additional 120 wrestlers will fill the byes in the brackets. Overall, the wrestling championships will see 520 student-athletes from approximately 400 schools participate from each of 11 sections, along with qualifiers from the New York City Public School Athletic League (PSAL) and the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA).

SESSION #1

10:30 – 2:30 pm….……… Preliminaries: Division 1 and 2

2:30 – 4:30 pm……………Quarterfinals: Division 1 and 2

4:30 – 6:30 pm……………Wrestlebacks: Division 1 and 2

4:30 – 6:30 pm…..………. Wrestlebacks: Division 1 and 2

SESSION #2

Sunday, March 9            9:30 am…………………… National Anthem/Special Awards

10 am – 12:30 pm……….. Semifinals: Division 1 and 2

                                       Wrestlebacks: Division 1 and 2

12:30 – 2:00 pm………….. Wrestlebacks/Cons Semifinals: Div. 1 & 2

2:15 – 4 pm………………. Consolations Finals: Division 1 and 2

SESSION #3

Sunday, March 9                6 pm…………………… FINALS: Division 1 and 2 (2 mats only)

 

THREE TICKET PACKAGES are being offered for the tournament including a “Premium package” for $38 in which an attendee would receive a ticket for each of the first two sessions and a third ticket for the last session in a premium seating area closer to the floor for the finals only. Also available will be a one-session ticket for $12 and a three-session package (without premium seating) for $33. All seating is general admission except for premium seating for the finals. Premium seating is only available in the “Premium package”.
